The Divine Meaning of Love

Albert Einstein beautifully summed up yet left it upon us to decide about the meaning of love,

“How on earth are you ever going to explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love?”

The Four Grecian Categories of Love

Love, for Greeks is categorized in the following four types:

  1. Agape love is an unconditional type of love. This is the love of friends and partners because it is really by choice.
  2. Philia love is love due to our likes and dislikes, desires and wants for certain things.
  3. Storge love is the love of a family and this is never by choice. This love requires a physical touch.
  4. Eros is the ultimate physical love where you have a desire for a sexual intercourse with your partner.

Meaning of love is such that it cannot be seen, heard or touched. It is a feeling which exists like a cool breeze. You know it is there but you might never be able to see it with your own eyes, hence, the most beautiful emotion on earth.

Defining Love: Is it Love or Plain Infatuation?

Love is not an easy emotion to define. People often confuse being in love with infatuation or lust. Many psychologists have made an effort to mark a clear distinction between being in love and lust.

Being in love can then be differentiated from taking a risk, holding that risk tight and then just falling into a dark deep hole and only rushing backwards once the “being in love” emotions have subsided. It is only then you can declare to yourself that you were truly in love with that certain thing.
