Love, in terms of its meaning is a vast phenomenon yet manifold interpretations hence types. A brief list of the basic types of love is as follows:

  • Storge – affection
  • Philia – friendship
  • Eros – romance
  • 4 Agape – unconditional love
  • Platonic Love
  • Pragma is a practical love
  • Banquet is love
  • Mania is an obsessive love that
  • Ludus is love that’s a game

Parental Love: Love for a Mother or Father

Don’t we all just agree to this evergreen beautiful fact that a daughter’s first love is her father and a son’s first love is his mother? Blessed are those children who receive the love of their parents.

Parents’ love is the greatest and your primary love. Love of parents is unconditional and remains forever till you are alive because parents love their children without any reason. People often understand the importance of the love of parents’ when they are not around or the parents are living far away.

Parental Love: Peeking in the Historical Chronicles

Even if we see examples from history, parents’ love is such that they give many sacrifices just to protect their children and to make sure that they are safe. We know that Moses mother placed her baby in the basket and made it flow in the river just to save her from the treachery of the Pharoah.

Mughal history has told us that the Mughal King, Babur, was heard to cry to God to take his life and make his sick son, Humayun, better by circling around his bed. With time, the reverse actually happened. This is how we get the true examples of love of parents who have made history for the times to come.

Intimacy and Infatuation: Love of a Partner

Love of a partner is more of a physical love and blends into companionship. In this relationship of being in love, sometimes words are used less and actions speak louder. Love of a partner is such that it comes in various forms:

Need for Communication:  Sometimes you just need a few kind words from your partner in times when you are depressed or just stressed out from the monotonous routine of life. When such a feeling arrives, it just calls out for a vacation!

Time and Space: Love of a partner demands spending quality time with each other. All you need is to sit together. This does not necessarily mean that you have to go out somewhere and spend a few bucks. Just by sitting at home and watching television together can give you a feeling of the existence of true love of a partner.

Expressing Love through Gifts: Partners appreciate each other and express their love by exchanging gifts. This builds a strong emotion of being loved by one another. Gifts allow the partners to understand the likes and dislikes of each other and nevertheless, gifts make everyone happy.

Physical Intimacy: Lastly, love of a partner is incomplete without any physical intimacy. Partners love each other by hugging, kissing and by physically loving.

Love for Animals

Being in love with animals or being loved by animals is a mutual feeling. It is known that humans attained an outshining power over the nature due to the love of animals. Due to this, there was a global control of humans because they used animals for hunting and for keeping as pets at home.

Interaction with animals in the form of love of animals and by observing them led humans to develop sophisticated weapons/tools to improve their communication. Bird watching eventually led man to form an aluminum bird which takes us around the world.

The unity and organized work of ants made the man realize the importance of strength when men work in a united manner. The loyalty of a dog as a man’s best friend can look after your houses best and there is no need for a security guard.

Impersonal Love

If a person loves an object, thinks high of a principle or a goal then that love is an impersonal love. People who have impersonal love let themselves be committed to that object or a cause passionately. People often have a love for a certain cause this is also called altruism or love of doing volunteer work.

It is impersonal love due to which we see many welfare trusts and non-profit organizations working for a good cause. People have love for old things because they hold a particular history or have significance attached to it and they don’t want to let go of things.

Depiction of Love in Scriptures and Literature

Love, a truly understandable feeling yet a vicissitude of complicated coloring has been depicted differently in holy scriptures like the Biblical interpretation of love and in romantic narrations and classic literature.
