Besides the written accounts of direct revelation, the moral principles, teachings, prophecies and commandments serves as an encouraging and inspirational guide for the readers.
Origin and Etymology
The Latin word "inspirare" was already in use by a number of Church Fathers in Christian theology during the first centuries to translate the Greek term "pnéo". When Jerome (347-420 DC), as requested by Pope Damasus, translated the Greek text of the Holy Scripture to the language of the common people of Latium (the region of central western Italy in which the city of Rome is located), in the passage of the 2 Tim 3.16-17 he translated the Greek "theopneustos" as "divinitus inspirata" ("divinely breathed into").
In English the passage says,
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God [theopneustos], and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time–God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see.
