The Writing Business : Smart Trade for Smart People
The writing business is a good shot for an imaginative hitchhiker sitting in a den, with a pen. This industry is developing and intensifying with time. It is a trade that offers a fair promise for good writers. No writer is a born writing fad so it takes numerous trials with a fair share of hits and misses before you will land a good deal.
The image of a tuxedo clad writer, quill in one hand, dwarfed by a massive table, and surrounded by crumpled heaps of discarded sheets doesn’t sound alien. This imagery might keep off an aspiring author of a could-be-million dollar-seller from trying out a hand at some writing gig. Not a smart perception, I believe!
Getting into the Writing Business
Writing can come naturally, but business acumen doesn’t. A smart writer might do wonders with words while painting a kaleidoscopic imagery, yet he might trip up while lettering commerce contracts. While taking up writing for businesses, one has to involve the following ingredients into a quick recipe:
- Smart perception
- Quick and detailed analysis
- Clarity of purpose
- Repeated call upon wits and intellect
Art of the writing business
The art of the writing business in my opinion is a tad bit stiff yet not impossible to master. Every one is a thinker, a feeler and an analyzer. Like a grasshopper, all of us have got susceptible antennas that pick up and store our felt-emotions through the course of life.
Sitting in front of a blank screen, all we have to do is; call these long-felt-feelings to action and then precipitate this action into words, sentences and paragraphs. Wondering…”Would work for creative writing but what have feelings got to do with technical, professional or promotional writing?”
Yeah! That comes in the science part…
Science of the Writing Business
No writer ever, writes a one-version copy of his draft. No draft ever written floats in a smooth stride when it was being written. It takes revision, proofreading and editing to finalize every write-up. So, why bother with a patterned outline when that could be attended to later.
My own biggest time-wasters have been the lengthy fumblings in keeping pace with the outline pattern. Oh! In case you are filling up a sheet to just get it off asap then it’s ok. But if it’s a delicate assignment or project that calls for attention to detail then my ramblings could be a bit of help.
Writing for Businesses
Business writing with times is preening itself as an industry to take off in a smooth flight. More and more businesses are looking for writers with the pre pointed-out ingredients to handle their stuff. For this purpose, writers have got an open field to try out their dexterity at various writing niches.
But like all the good things, it takes time, effort and most importantly practice. Manufacturing your write-up and expecting it to strike bells across the World Wide Web is not a sensible inspiration. Going slow and steady while pitching at different opportunities along the way, is the best strategy for aspiring writers seeking to profit from the writing business.
