- Exploratory: This type of case studies involves more information and research. Such case studies are used to support in-depth research process.
- Descriptive: In such processes of investigation, subjects are observed and studied in the light of pre- existing theories.
- Intrinsic: When a researcher includes his personal interest in the case study then it forms intrinsic research pattern.
- Collective: In such type of researches, individuals or groups are under investigation.
- Instrumental: A study in which subject allows the researcher to understand something more than what has already learnt and observed.
How to Collect Data for a Case Study?
Researchers adopt number of methods to gather information about case studies. Most often, direct observation and interviews are adopted. Other than that documents like magazines, newspapers, administrative records and articles are also used to collect data for a case study. Survey records and census records may also assist researchers in their studies.
